Tin Win
"We want to continue with this tradition and this craft because it has been passed to us across generations, it’s special knowledge" Tin Win
Tin Win has been a goldsmith for 20 years, and takes great pride in his vocation. Goldsmithing has always been a popular trade in his hometown in Ramree Island, Rakhine State, so in 1996 he moved to Yangon to practise the craft and study under the master U Kyaw Than. Tin Win started a small business of his own in 2003. In 2013, he moved to Korea as a general worker to earn more money, allowing him to reinvest in his business. Returning in 2015, he immediately picked up his tools again, working as a freelance goldsmith in Downtown Yangon, before joining the Turquoise Mountain workshop in 2016. Tin Win brings a deep philosophy and creativity to his work, describing his process as "close to meditating".
