Born in 1987, Rohina grew up in Kabul during the Afghan Civil War and the time of the Taliban. Coming from a family of distinguished jewellers, Rohina was set on becoming a jeweller from a young age. After graduating from the Turquoise Mountain Institute Rohina set up Gowhar Shad Gem-Cutting and Jewellery, an all-female jewellery business specialising in intricate Turkmen designs and handmade chains. Alongside her work as a jeweller, Rohina completed a part time degree in sculpture at Kabul University.
