Kabul Portal

Portals is a global public arts project run by Shared Studios. Each portal is a gold shipping container equipped with immersive audio and video technology inside. When you enter one, you come face-to-face with someone in a distant Portal and can converse live and full-body, making eye contact as if in the same room.

On August 25, 2016 Turquoise Mountain opened the Kabul portal in the historic neighborhood of Murad Khani. By linking to portals in Herat, Isfahan, Kigali and the United Nations in NYC, members of the Turquoise Mountain community and residents of Kabul have been able to connect with a variety of students, artists and businesses people; sharing their art, life stories and aspirations with one another.
