Gawhar Shad

The Gawhar Shad Mausoleum in Herat, western Afghanistan, is one of the world's finest examples of Timurid architecture. In 2011 Turquoise Mountain was asked by UNESCO to provide all the woodwork for the mausoleum's restoration, including handcrafting exquisite doors and windows for the exterior of the building.

In the old city of Kabul Turquoise Mountain has gained a worldwide reputation for restoring historic buildings, and bringing new life to areas of cultural heritage. Awarded the 2013 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award of Distinction, Turquoise Mountain has since been asked to consult on prestigious projects involving 'living heritage' in Saudi Arabia and Myanmar.
