In 2012, the nonprofit, Future Brilliance Afghanistan, set up a lapidary training project for Afghan artisans to further train 36 semi-skilled artisans (including 10 graduates of the Turquoise Mountain Institute) and develop a jewelry brand using stones that are native to the country. The result is Aayenda Jewelry, which aims to provide a sales and marketing platform for Afghan designers and artisans, especially women. Collections are comprised of jewelry by Afghan designers and artists in collaboration with award-winning designers, Paul Spurgeon, Antoine Sandoz, Anna Ruth Henriques and Annie Fensterstock.
Turquoise Mountain graduates are currently the main producers for Aayenda, along with 300 war widows from northern Afghanistan who hand-carve lapis and turquoise beads for the brand.
