The combination of traditional wood carving (‘panpu’), wood turning (‘panput’) and the rich natural resource of world famous teak means that there is huge potential within the woodworking crafts. Turquoise Mountain has extensive experience developing joinery and carving and has developed a significant high-end industry around this in Afghanistan, undertaking major international commissions for five star hotels and private residences in London, Tokyo, New York and elsewhere.

The pilot project in Myanmar has included developing a range of high-end recycled teak crafts incorporating carving and high-quality joinery. This has identified key artisans, worked with existing woodwork shops and used local designer U Hla Thaung to develop designs and products.
