Turquoise Mountain and Pippa Small: Design for Development on the Silk Road
Spurring the revival of artisan industries in Afghanistan, Myanmar and Jordan with Syrian refugees, Turquoise Mountain, in partnership with Pippa Small, promotes and supports traditional crafts.
Turquoise Mountain supports young artisans, small businesses and refugees through training, mentoring and sales support to connect them to international markets. Artisans are provided with access to specialist equipment, workspaces, and a team of business development experts.
The artisanal businesses that Turquoise Mountain works with specialize in traditional crafts including jewellery, woodwork, ceramics, calligraphy, miniature painting, carpets and textiles.
Pippa Small and Turquoise Mountain are celebrating ten years of collaboration in 2018. To commemorate this milestone there will be special collections with Afghanistan and Myanmar artisans. And most excitingly together we are launching a project with Syrian refugees in Jordan. Come and be part of the launch of this important new collaboration.
During LCW there will be discussions, demonstrations and talks from designers, artisans and thought-leaders across a myriad of crafts including jewellery, woodwork, tailoring/fashion, illustration and calligraphy.
