Zahir Shah Amin
Zahir Shah Amin was born in 1988 in Mazar-e-Sharif, the son of one of Afghanistan's most renowned tile-makers. He joined the staff of the Turquoise Mountain Institute in 2007 as part of its initial tile-making programme, and is now its head teacher. Zahir Shah laments that Afghanistan has been viewed as 'little more than a battlefield by many outsiders rather than one of the most culturally rich countries in the world'. Zahir Shah intends to change these perceptions of his homeland. The director of his own business, Zahir Shah has made tiles for a range of prestigious projects from an exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, to the tile front of the Afghan National Museum.
