Born in 1987, Rohina grew up in Kabul during the Afghan civil war and the time of the Taliban. Coming from a family of distinguished jewellers, Rohina was set on becoming a jeweller from a young age. After graduating from the Turquoise Mountain Institute Rohina set up Gowhar Shad Gem-Cutting and Jewellery– an all female jewellery business specialising in intricate Turkman designs and handmade chains. Alongside practicing as a jeweller, Rohina is currently doing a part time degree in Sculpture at Kabul University. 'Studying sculpture has given be a new perspective on jewellery' Rohina says 'helping me approach jewellery composition and materials in fresh ways'.
