Afghanistan’s unique crafts traditions are being revitalised by a new generation of enterprising craftsmen and women.

Artisans supported by Turquoise Mountain in Kabul and beyond are creating beautiful handmade pieces of art, from carved walnut furniture to traditional hand knotted rugs. They are also collaborating with international designers to create jewellery in silver and gold studded with Afghan rubies and emeralds, vibrant and colourful textiles, and delicate gemstone boxes.

Turquoise Mountain trains artisans at the Institute for Afghan Arts and Architecture, offering three-year courses in the craftsperson's chosen field. Young artisans are also mentored through their first years of business, given access to specialist equipment, workspaces, and connected with international designers and buyers.
